Join the Ipswich Historical Society for a day celebrating the journey from horse-drawn transport to the horsepower of modern engines. Set amongst the historical displays and collections at the society’s grounds, the event showcases the people, machines and stories that helped shape the region’s transport history.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast, classic vehicle admirer or simply looking for a fun family outing, there’s plenty to see and experience throughout the day.

Highlights & Activities

Live Clydesdale horse: Meet a magnificent Clydesdale horse and learn about the important role these powerful animals played in farming, industry and transport before the age of motor vehicles.

Historic vehicle displays: Explore an impressive collection of veteran and vintage vehicles, old Ford cars, historical motorcycles and restored engines. Vehicle owners will be on hand to share stories and insights about their prized machines.

Heritage bus rides: Climb aboard a heritage bus and enjoy a nostalgic journey that offers a glimpse into how previous generations travelled.

Blacksmith demonstrations: Watch skilled blacksmiths from the Ipswich Historical Society demonstrate traditional forging techniques and showcase a craft that was once essential to everyday life.

Old MacDonald’s Travelling Farm: Younger visitors can enjoy hands-on encounters with friendly farm animals, making this a memorable experience for children.

Mr Magic live show: Be entertained by the ever-popular Mr Magic, whose family-friendly performance is sure to delight audiences of all ages.

Meet local author Toni Risson: Discover the story behind Whatever it Takes – The Beaumont Transport Story as local author Toni Risson shares insights into her research and the fascinating history of transport in Queensland.

Photo opportunity with Banjo: Capture a memorable family photo sitting in a buggy behind Banjo, the centre’s distinctive metal horse sculpture.

Heritage stalls and displays: Browse exhibits and displays from local community groups, including historical organisations, genealogists, spinners and weavers, and other heritage-focused exhibitors.

Food & Refreshments

Visitors can enjoy lunch from Darra Carvery and grab coffee, drinks and refreshments from the Hobbit Hole Coffee Van while exploring the event.
